4 SIMPLE STEPS TO ACHIEVING YOUR FITNESS GOALS IN 2023

New Year’s Resolutions. We all make them, and while quite a few people stick to their goals (with fitness-related ones being the most common), many more do not. On average, only 46% successfully stay true to their resolutions after the first 6 months, but we want to change that.

We at iMotion have a few ideas to help you kickstart a New Year’s Resolution you’re guaranteed to keep, with different examples to give you some extra motivation.

Step 1 - Proper Planning

Being able to plan ahead is a great skill to use when coming up with a resolution. First, focus on your desired end goal. What do you want to gain from this? It’s important not to set anything too unlikely or just plain impossible though, start small and work your way up when the time is right.

For example, you could set a target to run for 10 minutes on the treadmill by the end of one month, and then 20 minutes by the end of the next. The important thing is to start off small and push harder each time!

Step 2 - Partner Up

Whether you choose to work out at the gym, exercise in the comfort of your own home, or simply use nature to stay healthy, it’s always better to have someone with you rather than going at it alone. Morale boosts from friends and family are very important for reassurance and guidance, especially when sticking to a goal.

For example, ask a friend or partner to join you in a gym session. If they decline, ask someone else!

Step 3 - Switch it up

Don’t stick to one routine for long periods of time, as this can cause you to become bored and unwilling to carry on working. Switch up your routines every now and then, or better yet, try something completely new. There’s no limit to the exercise you can do, and your body will reap the benefits of every new thing you try.

For example, focus on your arms and core for two weeks, then swap to cardio and legs for the next two. Rinse and repeat!

Step 4 - Make it Fun

Exercise, especially in the long term takes a lot of perseverance. That’s why you should always try to make your routines as fun as you can! By setting yourself challenges, playing a sport in between or using any of the other tips above, you can make getting healthy feel like less of a chore, and more something to look forward to!

For example, why not turn it into a competition? You and a friend both set a personal record for an exercise or sport and try to beat each other’s best go. A bit of friendly competition will help you push yourself whilst enjoying the process of getting fit.

So, there you have it! Keep these steps in mind as you try to stick to your New Year’s Resolutions, and you might find yourself enjoying exercise a whole lot more than you used to.
